Just What the Doctor Ordered!

….three weeks in warm weather.

For those new to the blog….hello and welcome! I'm glad that you're joining. This January, I'll head to Mexico City to finish researching for my mambo project! I'm excited to visit archival collections in the city, eat excellent food, and hang with musicians and researchers as I wrap up this 6-year project.

In addition to singing, I'm a music educator, and have been a professor for Ontario colleges and Universities, most recently for the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University, and I teach courses in ethnomusicology, music history, theory, and performance practice.  I've been affiliated with Queen's University, in Kingston, Ontario since 2018, when I started my Ph.D. So, in 2024 I'll be updating my title to Dr. Burgé – and I look forward to the day!

In the meantime, I feel like I'm in a relationship with Dámaso Pérez Prado for all the time I spend with him and his music.  I'll keep you posted on that soon! [if you're a presenter wanting to do that heritage project of 1950s mambo, hit me up!]

After Mexico City, I'll return to Florida International University to the Cuban Research Center to present at the 14th Conference on Cuban and Cuban American Studies

So, I'm packing my short-sleeves and my moleskine notebook, and I'll send you an update from the road.

In good health and blessings,

Hannah
